Manitoba Council for International Education:
Strengthening International Education in Manitoba
Our membership comprises all of Manitoba’s major public and private educational institutions with international student enrollment. Each MCIE member institution has active, and in most cases long-standing, international education programs. Through collaboration among our members and with relevant provincial bodies, MCIE enhances and promotes Manitoba’s international education opportunities. Our members benefit from support, guidance, mentorship, and networking opportunities to develop recruiting strategies and advance their programs to the highest standards. MCIE credits its success to the volunteer participation of its members.

Goals & Objectives
To act as a forum for sharing information
Educational institutions in Manitoba enjoy close working relationships, which benefits both international students and the institutions that serve them.
To serve as a resource
MCIE sponsors professional development seminars and workshops for member institutions. Regular MCIE council meetings, “Watercooler” sessions, and ad-hoc working group participation also allow members to share and discuss issues affecting international education locally and nationally.
To foster a collaborative approach
MCIE membership spans the full spectrum of international education from elementary to university level. Manitoba’s relatively smaller size and close international education community offer students an unparalleled opportunity to transition seamlessly from one level of study to another.
This collaboration also benefits students who wish to transition from English language programs to academic programs or from international student to permanent resident status in Manitoba. MCIE also collaborates with international education associations outside of Manitoba such as CAPS-I, CBIE, CICan, and Languages Canada.
To initiate or facilitate joint marketing initiatives
MCIE members have pooled resources for joint missions in locations such as South Korea, Mexico, and Brazil, and has welcomed agents from Vietnam, Spain, and Mexico for familiarization tours of our province. We have also produced branding and promotional pieces to highlight Manitoba as a prime international education destination.
To promote and advocate for the interests of our members
MCIE provides accurate and timely information about international education to all its stakeholders. This promotes an understanding of the positive impact of the international education sector and facilitates dialogue between our members, government, and citizens of our province. MCIE also advocates on behalf of our members and Manitoba’s international education community to governments, non-governmental organizations and the media.
